PRODUCT INFO
In the 1920's it became fashionable for women to smoke. Tobacco manufacturers were quick to capitalise on this trend and started to market cigarettes directly to women. Cigarette advertising of the day was filled with images of women enjoying a cigarette.
Muratti's Brothers went one step further and made these cigarettes especially for women. They were even gold tipped to enhance the appeal. In my opinion this is one of the classic cigarette tins of that era.
The beautiful lithograph illustration is beleived to have been inspired by a 1904 French photograph featuring Sen: Luz Chavita who was one of the famous gypsy dancers of Folies Bergère. First established in 1869 this Parisien music hall was at the height of its fame and popularity from the 1890s through the 1920s. It still operates today. I have attached a picture for your interest but it is not included in the sale.
The tin measures 74mm wide, 72mm high and 17mm deep.
